More Songs Of Wild Birds. Original recordings by Nicholson and Koch

The role of the observer is to maintain and build an archive of data that catalogues species increase and decline from year to year. In this respect they are responsible for exposing loss, disappearance and potential extinction and for staying connected to the interdependency of species and habitats that extends beyond country borders. A role that is increasingly important with rising threats to many species of bird.

Taking reference from a series of 7” vinyl’s recorded in 1945 of wild birdsong. The recordings have a huge amount of static and through this can be heard the various songs of birds. The recordings give the impression that the songs are in a state between definition and disappearance and speak simultaneously of the desire to protect/catalogue and the uncertainty of decay, extinction and collapse.
